The Expanse - Television Season 1 Review

Image
I'm still trying to wash the disappointment that came from the  Borgias  off my soul, so I thought I'd retreat to a beloved series that just happened to get a new season released recently. I'm pretty familiar with this series, however I thought I'd start from the top and work my way to the new season. I'm glad I did, as I had forgotten how awesome this show is. I saw this on Amazon Video, where it is available for free to all Amazon Prime members. You can also get this one on DVD/Blu-ray too though. * General Information  The Expanse is a science fiction television series based off the book series of the same name by James S.A. Corey. The first season premiered on 14 December 2015 via the Syfy channel. The first three seasons of this series were produced by Syfy, however the channel cancelled it despite its welcome reception. Amazon rescued the show after a successful fan campaign and renewed it for both a fourth and fifth season. A bit more scrutiny on the show'

Showdown in Little Tokyo - Film Review

Image
I don't review every awful movie I watch, but considering this film's pedigree, it seemed fitting that discuss this one. I'm a huge fan of 1980s' action movies, and despite the fact that this one is technically from the 1990s, I was genuinely excited when this hit our "Bad Movie List." My excitement died faster than some of Dolph Lundgren's foes in this film though, when I struggled to follow the incoherent plot and muddled performances of its characters.  * Where You Can Find It:   We saw this dud on Amazon Video where it is available for rent and/or purchase. General Information  Showdown in Little Tokyo is buddy-cop action movie that was first released on 23 August 1991. It was directed and produced by Mark L. Lester with action stars, Dolph Lundgren and Brandon Lee (the son of Bruce Lee), headlining. The film was distributed by Warner Brothers and retains a surprisingly short run-time of only 79 minutes. The movie received largely negative critical rev

Halloween - Film Review

Image
I've been treating myself to quite a few horror movies during October, but felt it was important to go back to a true classic. Part of me worried that this film wouldn't be able to stand the tests of time, but it continues to hold up as the psychotic granddaddy of what we now know as the slasher sub-genre. I checked this out on Amazon Video where it is available to rent or purchase.  * General Information  Halloween is a slasher-horror film that was first released on 25 October 1978. It was written, directed, and scored by John Carpenter with Compass International Pictures and Falcon International Productions distributing. The film is considered one of the very first films in the slasher-horror genre with only Psycho and Black Christmas coming before it. It was Jamie Lee Curtis' first major motion picture and is arguably John Carpenter's most famous film (although he's made several incredible films in his lifetime). The film was a hit with audiences as it accrued

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PSX) - Video Game Review

Image
It's been a while since I got a video game review out, so I thought I'd find something appropriate for this October by continuing my trend of Resident Evil games (see my review for Resident Evil 2 here ). I have been playing other games, but I'm undecided on what I'm going to actually review. My addiction to Crusader Kings 3 has been real, but I'm finally coming off the high, so I might get a review of that out at some point. I just started Resident Evil 4 as well though, so there's plenty of review material coming down the pipe! * Where You Can Find It:   I played this on my PS Vita, but it was originally available for the original PlayStation and can be found on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and several other platforms. General Information Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a survival-horror game that serves as the third installment in the Resident Evil franchise. It is the last numbered entry of the Resident Evil series that takes place in Raccoon City. It was

All the Right Moves - Film Review

Image
With autumn getting into full-swing, I thought I'd embrace the American tradition of watching football. Of course, I would never watch actual real football, but I feel like watching a movie about football is close enough. This movie has been sitting on my shelf for years (next do Dune , sadly), but I finally decided embrace my inner-quarterback and check this one out.  1 Where You Can Find It:   I watched this on DVD, but it appears to be available to those with an HBO Start streaming service. This movie made me feel old when my DVD copy opened with an advertisement to "embrace the future" by watching more movies on DVD. I still remember thinking VHS was high-tech at one point... General Information  All the Right Moves is an American football drama film that was first released on 21 October 1983. It was directed by Michael Chapman and written by Michael Kane with 20th Century Fox distributing. As you can see from the film's poster, it stars Tom Cruise just as his c

Fright Night - Film Review

Image
I continued my horror movie marathon by going back to a 1980s' classic. I'm ashamed to say that I had not seen this one before, so I was ecstatic when I got everything I wanted and more with this one. I first heard of this movie when the remake was coming out (haven't seen that one either), but what really drew me to this film was its beautiful movie poster. I know I'm not supposed to judge a book by its cover (or a film by its poster), but damn , does this poster look good!  * Where You Can Find It:   I checked this one out on Amazon Video where it is currently free to view for those with an Amazon Prime account. General Information  Fright Night is a horror film that was released on 2 August 1985. It was written and directed by Tom Holland (no, not the kid that plays Spider-Man). It was distributed by Vistar Films, and marks as Holland's directorial debut. The film holds a Metascore of 62 , which is a little middling, however it has a massive 92% rating on Rotten

The Cabin in the Woods - Film Review

Image
With us entering October, I really wanted to start getting some horror movie reviews in. I've got more than a few on my list to check out, but this one has always really interested me. I've frequently heard that this is a fantastic film, but the ending was spoiled for me so I was a bit hesitant to go all-in. I'm glad I took the leap finally. 1 Where You Can Find It:   I checked this one out on Amazon Video where it is currently free to view with an Amazon Prime account. General Information  The Cabin in the Woods is a horror comedy film that released on 13 April 2012. It was co-written and directed by Drew Goddard, as well as co-written and produced by Joss Whedon. It was distributed by Lionsgate, who were the driving force for big picture horror films during the 2010s. The film was received fairly positively with a Metascore of 72 and numerous accolades from critics for its fresh spin on the tired slasher genre. Beyond its above-average ratings, it was nominated for sever
