Deadly Premonition (PS3) - Video Game Review

Image
I have been wanting to review this game for some time, however this game has always been a bit of a quandary for me. I find the premise of this game to be fascinating, however it took me three times to actually complete it. I would equate this game to an intriguing book left on a coffee table in which I frequently kept going back to pick at. Like my review of Resident Evil , the version of this game that I played is also a "director's cut." I'll make sure to discuss the difference of the original and the director's cut. 1 Where You Can Find It: I played this on PlayStation 3, but it is also available on PC, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Switch.   General Information Deadly Premonition is a survival-horror game with open-world elements that centers on murder mystery. It was originally released on 23 February 2010 for Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. It was developed by Access Games and directed/designed/written by Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro (it was also co-writte

Magic City - Television Season 2 Review

Image
As I mentioned in my review of the first season, I had originally tried Magic City before but given up after finishing season one. I felt that the show squandered its setting and failed to weave together its many plot points into a cohesive story. I know I may have come off as overly critical on that review, however I don't believe that Magic City was a bad show, just that it simply failed to live up to its potential. I am happy to say that I did not repeat the same mistake I made last time and decided to give season two a go. Like the first season, I viewed this via Blu-Ray. Spoiler Warning: As this review covers season two of Magic City, there will be spoilers for the previous season. If you haven't seen the first season yet and want to avoid having the story ruined, I'd stop reading now or check out my review for season one here . * General Information  I'm not going to repeat the general information for the show, however I will add some stuff I learned in my further

Dungeons & Dragons - Film Review

Image
There's a very fine line between hot garbage and a movie that's so bad that it's good. There's apparently an entire genre of films that are dedicated to making movies of this subset, but I never really got into them as they were designed to be bad. The best ones of the trash pile are undeniably the movies that were made under the premise that they're legitimate cinema that deserve to be regarded on the same levels as classics like Lord of the Rings or Silence of the Lambs . I recall seeing this as a child, but could not wholly comprehend the full extent of the cheese at the time, so I decided to give this a whirl again.  * Where You Can Find It:   I watched this on Amazon Prime Video where it is available for rent or digital purchase. General Information  Dungeons & Dragons is an action-fantasy movie that was initially released on 8 December 2000. It was directed by Courtney Solomon and distributed by New Line Cinema. It is based on the tabletop roleplaying ga

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3/PS4) - Video Game Review

Image
After finishing The Last of Us Part 2 (check out my review here ), I found myself feeling nostalgic for something more light-hearted while still retaining that Naughty Dog magic. With that being said, I figured I'd go back and start the Uncharted series from the beginning and make my way through the series. For those Resident Evil fans, don't you worry your zombie-loving heads one bit! I'm still going strong on that series so make sure to check out further reviews in the near-future! Without further ado, I have played the original Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on numerous occasions for the PlayStation 3, however for my review, I played it on my PlayStation 4 as part of the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection , which is available on the PlayStation Network Store. * General Information Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a third-person action-adventure game and is the first installment in the popular Uncharted series. It was developed Naughty Dog and published by Sony C

Magic City - Television Season 1 Review

I swear it's not intentional, but I find myself reviewing my third television show set in the beautiful city of Miami. I'd seen the first season of this show once before, but never got around to seeing season two. A co-worker gave me her copies of the show on Blu-Ray and I could hardly deny that I was eager to revisit the wonderful world of Miami circa 1959. Look for my review of the second and final season of this show soon. * General Information  Magic City is a crime drama set in the late 1950's in Miami, FL. It was created by Mitch Glazer and produced for the Starz network (yeah, that still exists). The show first aired on 30 March 2012, but only lasted two seasons. Although this show received middling critical reviews, I thought this show had enormous potential due to its setting. Those that are familiar with the time period and location will recall the CIA's infamous alliance with the American Mafia and Cuban separatists as part of a secret war against the newly e

Resident Evil (PSX) - Video Game Review

Image
My play-through of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II began to piss me off so much that I needed something get my mind off of it and relax me. Somehow, a game about being trapped in a zombie-infested mansion was more soothing than a JRPG about giant robots. Since I finished Resident Evil 0 , I decided to stick with the chronological line of events and go back to the very first entry in the Resident Evil franchise. Although this is the PlayStation version, I played this on the PS Vita after downloading it on the PlayStation Network Store. Another point I want to make is that I played the "Director's Cut" version of this game, although I will speak on the original version as well.  1 General Information Resident Evil is a survival-horror game and is the very first original title in the massive Resident Evil franchise. It was developed and published by Capcom with its director, Shinji Mikami, considered the original mastermind behind the term "survival-horro

Stonehearst Asylum - Film Review

Image
I've been meaning to pack some film reviews into my portfolio for some time but COVID-19 has sort of sapped my energy of watching movies since the outbreak hit. Hopefully, once theaters go back to opening up, this will become a more common occurrence. Despite all of that though, I just knew I had to do a review of this film when I heard about it as the premise just sounded too good to be true.  * Where You Can Find It:   I checked this one out on Netflix, where it is available for streaming and download. General Information  Stonehearst Asylum is a gothic thriller that was initially released on 24 October 2014. The film was directed by Brad Anderson as part of a joint production between Icon Productions and Sobini Films (Mel Gibson is one of the producers). Surprisingly enough, despite all of the English actors and setting, it is based off of the American short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether" by Edgar Allen Poe. Shortly prior to its release, the fil

The Last of Us Part II (PS4) - Video Game Review

Image
In late April of this year, leaks that spoiled the story of The Last of Us Part II leaked and I had the great misfortune of hearing what most of the leaks were (although I did not see any of the leaked content first-hand). Since those leaks, The Last of Us Part II has been an incredibly polarizing game as people have jumped to conclusions over the direction of the story. I will be the first to admit, that I was one of those people as I was incredibly upset about what Sony's Naughty Dog had planned for the two wonderful characters in their first game. I was wrong to leap to assumptions as this sequel not only crushed my bias, it exceeded any and all of my original hopes. I cannot stress this enough: do not check out the leaks before playing this game, and if you were unlucky like I was, please play this game through to the end before rushing to judgement! One final forward before I get into the thick of things. This game will be pretty hard to avoid spoilers however I'm goin
