Dune - Film Review

Image
As time has gone on, some of the best directors of the past half a century have faded away leaving me wondering who might be able to fill the void left behind. After seeing his brilliant work with Blade Runner 2049 , I genuinely believed that Denis Villeneuve might be the next Ridley Scott. No, it wasn't because of the Blade Runner connection, but it was more-so due to Villeneuve's ability to convey subtle storytelling along with truly brilliant cinematography (typically involving landscapes). With all of that said, I had to admit I was eagerly looking forward to seeing this in theaters, however perhaps I expected too much. 1 Where You Can Find It:  I saw this in theaters, but it is also available on HBO Max. General Information  Dune is a space opera science fiction film that was released on 22 October 2021. It is an adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel of the same name. It was directed, co-produced, and co-written by Denis Villeneuve with Greig Fraser providing the cinema

Dread Hunger (PC) - Video Game Review

Image
Note: I want to preface this review by stating that this is an Early Access game. As such, this game is not formally released. I intend to return to this review and update it when the game is formally released so that any further updates are fully captured. I've been on the fence about reviewing this one as it's still in Early Access (however not for much longer ), but I also thought that we all could use a scrumptiously villainous party game to enjoy with others this Halloween. What started out as me simply looking for a new survival horror game to play has since quickly turned into one of my all-time favorites of the year!  1 Where You Can Find It:  I played this one on PC where it is available on Steam via Early Access. It is expected to leave Early Access on 10 November 2021, however the game has been fully playable for some time already. General Informati on Dread Hunger is a survival horror multiplayer game that was developed by Team Dread Hunger and published by D

No Time to Die - Film Review

Those that know me are likely aware that I have a fairly love-hate relationship with the Daniel Craig generation of James Bond films. Most people consider Casino Royale to be arguably one of the best of the entire franchise (a sentiment I mostly agree with), but I also really enjoyed Quantum of Solace . It was from that point though where the series began a sharp downturn as I found Skyfall to be only okay, while Spectre is my least favorite of the entire franchise (that's including Moonraker ). I wasn't sure what to expect of this final outing, but I came in with a positive outlook and I have a fair amount to say on Daniel Craig's final outing as the super spy. 1 Where You Can Find It:  I saw this in theaters, and it appears that this film (as of 11 October 2021) is currently only available in cinemas. General Information  No Time to Die is an action spy film that was released on 8 October 2021 (it was released a week earlier in the United Kingdom). It is the twenty-fif

A Nightmare on Elm Street - Film Review

Image
There's something about October that makes the sound of shrieking teenagers and cackling psychopaths about as comforting as the jingling of sleigh bells on Christmas morning. I figured I'd start out the Halloween month strong by revisiting a film I've referenced on more than a few occasions.  1 Where You Can Find It:  I viewed this one on Amazon Video where it is available for rent/purchase. General Information  A Nightmare on Elm Street is a horror slasher film that was released on 9 November 1984. It was written and directed by Wes Craven with Robert Shaye producing. Charles Bernstein handled the composing for this film, while it was distributed by New Line Cinema. This is the first of seven entries in this franchise, plus a cross-over film with the Friday the 13th franchise ( Freddy vs. Jason ). Additionally, there was a remake made in 2010, however it was met with relatively poor reviews . With roughly a budget of little over $1 million, this went on to score over $25

Lost - Season 1 Television Review

There's something special about the term "appointment television." Only a handful of shows ever reach the heights of earning a spot in viewers' hearts where people actually set aside time to make sure they're there for that next episode. Arguably one of the first shows I can recall to ever accomplish this feat was Twin Peaks (a show I've found myself referencing so often I am considering re-watching again to review at some point), however that was relatively short-lived compared to later series like Sopranos and Game of Thrones . These kinds of series leave viewers hungry for the next episode, and frequently make for some great water cooler debates at the office on the following day. I was kind of out of the loop when this show first came out, however I certainly recall the buzz that surrounded it. It may not be perfect, but I can certainly see how it earned its place among the other heavyweights that we now call appointment television. 1 W here to Find It:
