The Wire - Season 4 Television Review

Image
I know I only just recently started implementing a new scoring system for my reviews, but I can promise that it's pretty rare for me to hand out "10/10" scores. With that said, this show continues its momentum from the outstanding season 3 run . I had considerable doubts going into this season as it seemed like everything had been wrapped up in the last season. I once again find my expectations blown away as this season essentially opens up an entirely new chapter with all-new characters that essentially turns what was originally a cop show into a tragic coming-of-age tale. 1 W here to Find It:   This is available on HBO Max, where the entire series is available to subscribers, however one can also rent/purchase each season/episode on Amazon Video. General Information  Season four of The Wire was originally released on HBO on 10 September 2006. This season marks the entry of Eric Overmyer as a co-writer and co-producer. For my regular readers, you'll recognize this na

Chinatown - Film Review

Image
Note: The film I'm about to review has deep connections to its director, Roman Polanski, who remains wanted for the drugging and raping of a 13-year-old girl in 1977. While Polanski's actions are horrible, this review may occasionally mention his actions as a director in a positive manner. I want to clarify ahead of time that any positive mention of Polanski's directorial prowess is in no way an endorsement of the man's conduct outside of film. Furthermore, a film goes beyond any single person and I do not believe it would be right to ignore this film and all the hard work that went into making it as several actors/actresses, crews, and technicians helped craft it. Back when I first started reviewing Bosch , I stated how much I loved the noir-detective style behind the show, which blended perfectly with its use of a jazzy saxophone and the Los Angeles setting, but it made me wonder if this style had been used before and if it had worked as well in the past as it does n

The Wire - Season 3 Television Review

Although I've enjoyed the past two season of this show quite a bit, a part of me couldn't help but wonder why the series has received as many of its accolades as it has. Don't get me wrong, my reviews certainly show that the first two seasons were great, but I don't think it was until I started this season that I saw what a true treasure this show is. Without going into details, this is the season all about "Hamsterdam," which remains the subject of a lot of debate even today. I recall discussing it quite a bit in college (which was taught by the brother of a former police commissioner of Baltimore ). The premise behind Hamsterdam is really fascinating and the ways this show analyzes it is really well done. 1 W here to Find It:   This is available on HBO Max, where the entire series is available to subscribers, however one can also rent/purchase each season/episode on Amazon Video. The Milkwood Lounge - Tales from the Milkwood Lounge

The Milkwood Lounge                     My name is Milton Blair and I am not important. I want to get that out of the way now so there’s no confusion. I’m 27 years old, childless, loveless, and very much alone. I work a small-time position as a data analyst for a big firm in Annapolis, MD. The job is about as exciting as the meager wages I pick up from it.                 I worked the graveyard shift from 8pm to 4am, so my ride home on the bus was always pretty quiet. I typically put in my head-set and listened to music, but this time I had foolishly forgotten to pack it.                 The bus was a grimy tin can, bloated with bacteria, with foggy windows, and driven by bus drivers making under minimum wage. I was on my way home at around five in the morning when I heard some people talking in the back of the bus.                 “You hear about that thing in the news yesterday?”                 “Whaddya talkin’ about? The movie star thing? I hear that was just a publicity st

Update & Celebration

Dear Readers, I hope this finds you guys/gals well. Believe it or not, this is my 100th post! Hard to believe we've come this far since when I first started this whole thing. I wanted to thank all the readers for joining me on this ride, and I hope you'll stick with me as we steamroll our way to the next hundred posts! This blog has changed quite a bit since it first began, and I'm excited to say that there are more changes to look forward to. Since I'm a neat and tidy kind of guy, I've got the updates below. This blog first started with the Dear America series and although I've slowed down with it, it's not going anywhere. I generally only write a post for that series if I have something particularly pressing on my mind, so I've taken it kind of easy on that as I don't want to inundate you guys with pointless posts. I've got some big changes coming to my Quality Entertainment Reviews posts. I've been listening to the feedback you guys have
