The Final Push Across the Finish Line

Dear America,

It's been a little while since I last wrote. I want to point out that I'm only going to write to you when I feel that I have something worthwhile to write about. I hope you don't hold it against me, but I'd rather say what I mean to say and leave it at that. I tend to open my mouth a bit too much in the real world anyways.

I've been pretty busy this past week. A major undertaking of mine (aka going back to school) is finally done and I find myself crossing the finish line wondering where to run to next. I'm eager to get back into writing. Not this blog shit either. Real, genuine, story-telling. I'd like to write a book that is so good that people want to read it, as opposed to require convincing to even buy it. I think it's a fair request, but pretty damn difficult to execute. I don't resent any of my previous scribblings by any means either though, as they helped me reach where I'm at now and where I will eventually go.

Beyond writing though, there's more to life than words, education, and money (although some people might disagree with me on that last one). I'm not going to prattle on about the meaning of life, as I have found the answer to be completely subjective. Some people find accomplishment in how many kids they have; others in the lofty titles they've accumulated over their life; and still more others over great accomplishments they alone succeeded in. There's a different driving force behind us all, I think, and I'm still trying to figure out what mine is.

To quote my classy bartender friend, "I want to do something that matters," but there's so much more to it than that. The journey is not merely a dirt road extending past a barren horizon. There are roses to smell, songs to dance to, and lips to kiss. The journey doesn't need to be entirely alone, nor completely in-company with another.

I'm excited for the opportunity at a new chapter in my life, and I wish each of you fantastic new ones as well. There are some elements of the previous pages of my life that I'd like to continue, but a great deal could use reinvention (if I can swing it). What's on the horizon for you? Will you join me in this new chapter as well? I hope so.

Sincerely,
Calhoun
